Title: The Purple Polka-Dotted Predicament
Characters: Teddy Lupin, Andromeda Tonks
Rated: G
Word Count: 694 words
Summary: It's the eve of Teddy's first birthday, but some little boy's getting a little naughty...
Author's Note: I though this was a cute short little story, and I love the title for some odd reason. One of the rare occasions where the story comes off from a cool title.

Teddy was silent.

He was almost…too quiet. Parents throughout the centuries had long since learned that silence was often just as bad, or worse than, rambunctious and destructive dins.

As the grandmother of the child, and its guardian, Andromeda was keenly aware of this worldly truth, but at the moment terribly distracted in the kitchen, preparing an incredibly intricate cake for the party later that evening. It was such a difficult recipe that even with the help of her wand she was taking a long time with it.

But all the while, Teddy was unobtrusive, forgotten on the eve of his first birthday.

It was perhaps twenty minutes later that, as Andromeda flicked the cake into the oven, she remembered the existence of Teddy. More so, she recalled that she hadn’t heard a peep from the little boy for an extremely long period of time. Knowing Teddy and his favorite little antics, she threw down her wand on the counter, and nearly flew up the stairs into the playroom.

But Teddy was not there.

Heart racing, Andromeda zoomed across the hallway into her bedroom, where she spotted a lump beneath the blanket on her bed. Taking several steps to the edge of the bed, she began pulling back the blanket, and at the same time the lump started wriggling away as well, but with a flick of the bedspread, a fluffy head vividly decorated in rainbow stripes was revealed.

Peculiar, considering his general devotion to turquoise hair, but not unheard of for Teddy.

Breathing a sigh of relief, Andromeda almost turned her back to the boy when she saw something odd on Teddy’s ear…a large purple spot. And the panic began.

She grabbed his ankle, pulling the child closer to herself, and flipped him over. He had a devilish grin on his chubby baby face, but that wasn’t what made Andromeda gasp. His face was covered in bright purple polka-dots, and they weren’t the result of Teddy’s favorite magic markers…they were part of his skin just like freckles, only larger and, well, purple.

“Oh, Teddy, you did NOT do this on the eve of your birthday! You little devil, you…”

And the one year old just giggled hysterically, babbling a couple random words like ‘spot’ and ‘pooorple.’

Sometimes, Andromeda just didn’t know what to do. She had a metamorphmagus for a grandson, and he was far more of a trickster than Dora had been. And with no plan in mind what-so-ever, she took the child into her arms and walked back to the kitchen, where the oven beeped three times.

Placing Teddy on the counter, Andromeda picked up her wand and whisked the gorgeous blue cake out of the oven before turning her attention back to the little imp.

But the little devil was already crawling away, yet his granny was already ready for that, and with a whisper of ‘Wingardium Leviosa’ she had him floating back towards her. Her grin was the total opposite of his surprised face; his plan of escape was foiled.

“Teddy, you’re not the only one with tricks up your sleeve…”

The boy pouted, and unexpectedly his ears grew as big as an elephant’s. And they still had the purple polka-dots on them.

“Ted Remus Lupin, if you do not stop that at once I’ll…I’ll…” Andromeda was completely lacking any real threats, and taking a closer look at the child, she couldn’t suppress her giggle. He looked absolutely ridiculous, and Teddy himself knew it, for a smile grew on his face as quick as lightning. “Well, Teddy, I suppose you can go like that to the party over at your godfather’s house…we’ll all get a nice laugh. But I need a picture first!”

Still laughing, she placed the boy next to his birthday cake and turned around to summon the camera. Andromeda took it in her hands as it soared towards her, and turned to face Teddy again.

“Smile, Teddy!” She clicked the button on the camera, but to her horror, just afterwards the devil decided to kick the cake off of the table, where it became a mere pile of mush. “TEEEEEEEEDDY!!!!!”
